The publication was inspired by the need to form a venue where student perspectives on the pressing domestic and international issues of the day could be presented. With this goal in mind, the magazine will focus mainly on American Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory and Philosophy.

Operating on a quarterly publication schedule, the first issue will be available in print on June 21, 2007 and will be showcased to George Washington University students, parents, faculty, and administrators during the summer at all 5 sessions of the University’s award-winning Colonial Inauguration program.

Although the first print issue will be exclusively available to members of the University community in Washington, D.C., the magazine’s content will be available to all interested readers because Discourse Publications will be simultaneously launching the official website at www.gwdiscourse.com. In addition to content from print issues, the website will feature exclusive articles not found in the magazine, reader discussion boards, and a number of blogs allowing readers to engage in conversation with the writers, editors, and other readers.

GW Discourse, The Political Science Quarterly is run by a powerhouse of over 25 extremely talented students from a diverse cross-section of majors and areas of concentration, including International Affairs, Middle East Studies, Latin American Studies, Conflict & Security, Political Science, Journalism, History, Economics, Philosophy, Mass Communications, Chinese Language and Literature, Business, and many others.

In addition, staff members are key opinion leaders on campus, holding positions in a number of important organizations including the International Affairs Society, the College Republicans, the College Democrats, GW STAND the award-winning Independent news source, the GW Hatchet, The Daily Colonial, The George Washington University Student Association, and Influence PR : GW’s Premier Student Public Relations Group. The perspectives put forth by writers for GW Discourse are a combination of academic scholarship and real-world, political experience. Many have held internship positions with the Department of Defense, the American Enterprise Institute, the United States Secret Service, the Department of State, GW's National Security Archives, Department of Justice, Senator John McCain's Presidential Campaign, the Department of State, and a number of congressional and senatorial offices.

While appeal for GW Discourse is certain to be present among Political Science, International Affairs, History and Philosophy majors, the magazine will be tailored in a way that speaks to everyone in the GW community, from the Capitol Hill intern to new students fresh on the political scene.

“Our mantra is The Expression of Truths because we understand that there many sides to an issue and many perspectives that can be applied when a particular issue is being discussed,” commented Christopher Wimbush, Co-Founder and President of GW Discourse, The Political Science Quarterly. “I think that this understanding will be accepted by our readers and that our content will truly resonate among them, establishing the discourse we set out to create.”

Article topics in the first issue of GW Discourse include:

Deconstructing the “isms” of Politics

Realism and American Foreign Policy during the Cold War

Busybodyism: The Current Big-Government Mentality

Projections on the legacy of George W.
